Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025 Future Scapes Black History Month Essay Scholarship  Contest Entry (New Deadline is March 14)

Kick off Black History Month by entering the Black History Month Essay Scholarship. Eligibility for this opportunity is open to seniors from Salisbury & Rowan County High Schools and Early College, Class of 2025. The essay should be a minimum of 350 words, double-spaced, and centered around the theme: "How Black Inventors, Architects, and Builders Paved the Way for America's Progress: Exploring Their Impact on Innovation, Design, and Infrastructure." Submissions must include two printed copies of the essay with your name, address, school name, and phone number.


The deadline for submission is March 14, 2025, and all essays must be postmarked by that date. Please mail your essay to Future Scapes Inc., 100 W. Innes Street, Suite 202B, Salisbury, NC 28144. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025 NURD & NRYC Monroe Street Placemaking Learning Lab

In celebration of Black History Month, Future Scapes is partnering with Livingstone College to explore the cultural and historical preservation of former African American schools in Salisbury. This hands-on project is an opportunity to make a lasting impact. We will be meeting at the Andrew Carnegie Library on Livingstone College campus (701 West Monroe Street, Salisbury, NC 28144) at 11 am.

Mar. & Apr. 2025 NRYC College Experience Forum Series

This three-part series will explore various topics related to college life, careers, and community engagement. It’s a great chance for students to network and share ideas.

Summer 2025 NRYC Salisbury is Friendly Place-Making Learning Lab

Building on the success of the A Gateway for Redevelopment event, led by the City of Salisbury’s planners, we invite you to participate in the Salisbury is a Friendly Placemaking Learning Lab—a dynamic, collaborative event dedicated to transforming the South Main Street area into a vibrant, welcoming destination for both residents and visitors.


During this hands-on workshop, participants will first take a walk through the 12-block area to assess its walkability and discuss the potential for future improvements. This will be followed by an interactive mapping activity, where you’ll have the opportunity to visualize and share your ideas for the future of South Main Street.

Through your contributions, we will work together to uncover the area’s assets, challenges, and opportunities for revitalization. By the end of the session, we aim to create a shared vision for South Main Street—a place that is inviting, accessible, and rich with community spirit.
